Citizens Police Academy
September 14th, 2023 – November 18th, 2023
We are now accepting applications for our Fall 2023 Citizens Police Academy. This ten (10) week course is designed to offer an in-depth understanding of modern-day law enforcement in Fort Thomas. The Academy will have regular meetings every Thursday evening from 6pm to 9pm, beginning on September 14th. There will also be optional experiences on Saturday mornings (10/21, 11/4, and 11/18) from 9am to 1pm. While the Saturday morning experiences are optional, attendance is highly encouraged.
The primary goals of the Academy are to communicate with our citizens, to challenge Fort Thomas citizens to take an active, continuing role in their community, and to connect with our community members to cultivate positive, meaningful relationships.
The curriculum will cover topics such as: Our Department, Policing in America, Constitutional Law & the Legal System, Use of Force, Traffic Enforcement, School Resource Officers, Criminal Investigations, Emerging Issues in Law Enforcement, officer and legal discussion panels, K9 and SWAT demonstrations, a Police Department and courthouse tour, various guest speakers, a TASER demonstration, defensive tactics instruction, and traffic stop, firearms, CSI, and DUI practical exercises.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the attached application. All applicants must be at least 18 years old and have no felony charges. Additionally, our Department reserves the right to deny any application as deemed appropriate. The deadline for applications to be submitted is August 18th, 2023.
