Based on the upcoming forecast, city road crews will begin working 12-hour shifts on Saturday morning. All priority roads and side streets will receive a pre-treatment of salt prior to snow falling. This is to help keep snow and ice from bonding to the pavement. With the extreme, frigid temperatures, it may be necessary to leave a bed of snow coverage on side streets to gain traction and help reduce chances of ice formation.
Priority streets will need to be the focus for the duration of the snow. With sub-zero temperatures and single digit forecasted temperatures at the beginning of next week, it is anticipated that travel will still be hazardous. The city crews will be using Calcium Chloride to treat salt and enhance its ability to melt snow and ice, but it also has its limitations in these predicted frigid temperatures.
In addition, whenever possible, please utilize driveways if you have them, do not park in cul-de-sacs or block roadways as it will inhibit plows from doing their work. Stay safe this winter!
