The Fire Department will be conducting fire flow testing of hydrants across the city starting today. During this time, please use caution when approaching crews, as water discharging from hydrants is under high pressure.
Residents may temporarily experience water discoloration in their homes. If this occurs, simply run a cold water faucet (preferably from a bathtub or sink) until the water runs clear.
This testing is a critical part of ensuring public safety. Firefighters perform hydrant tests to verify that each hydrant is fully operational and capable of delivering the necessary water flow and pressure required to fight fires. The process includes checking hydrant valves, and piping, and measuring static/residual pressures and flow rates. Identifying any issues now helps prevent problems during emergencies.
To stay updated on when hydrant flushing is going on, follow the city’s Facebook page for daily updates as to what streets will be tested. FTFD appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
