Seeing new signage around town?
The city is implementing Walk Your Wheels Areas around town to ensure the safety of our community members and of our patrons. For the safety of those riding so they do not get injured and for people coming out of the businesses and walking.
Areas where these are included are: Inverness Business District, Cultural Arts District, and Midway District. There are also ones located at St Catherine of Siena, Johnson, Highlands Middle School, Highlands High School, Moyer, St Thomas, and Woodfill that are only active during school hours (7:30am-3:15pm).
These areas are meant to inform individuals on scooters, bikes, unicycles, skates, and skateboards to walk through the area with their wheels. Once they are outside the areas, they can go back on and ride.
We encourage individuals that are planning to ride on the sidewalk to be considerate of walkers and other individuals using the sidewalk and to use proper etiquette when doing so. The Walk Your Wheels Area doesn’t apply to the sharrows as people are more than welcome to ride their wheels on the street, but must follow the rules of the road.
The city has been fortunate to receive bells for scooters and bikes by Reser Bicycle Outfitters that are free to anyone who needs one. Stop in the city building to get yours today.
